“The youth are our future and greatest investment,” said Stockton Mayor Lincoln. “Our Summer Youth Employment Programs are addressing the fundamental workforce development needs of Stockton students while advancing economic development goals for our city. Youth programming and development is a top priority for our city council and providing our youth with critical job skills, career pathways, and a paycheck, is an incredible step in the right direction for the future of our city.”

Youth Jobs Corps is an innovative partnership between the state and local governments to help underserved youth and young adults, ages 16-30, find employment. As part of this service and career development program, young people are provided with wrap-around services such as job coaching and training while earning wages.

Administered by California Volunteers, Office of the Governor, Youth Jobs Corps is designed to help youth who are unemployed, not in school, from low-income families, have a history of justice involvement or are transitioning from foster care. Youth Jobs Corps members help cities and communities bolster their ability to address food insecurity, climate change and COVID-19 recovery.

“We received over 600 applications for 106 City of Stockton positions,” said Stockton City Manager Harry Black. “This demonstrates the demand, need and interest in gaining job skills and experience. All of the students who are part of the city program will work directly with city departments and have the benefit of a student work program supervisor who will work with the students in their job assignments to develop and grow their job skills and potential.”

Other cities participating in the Youth Jobs Corps program include Oakland, Richmond, San Francisco, San Jose, Bakersfield, Fresno, Sacramento, Anaheim, La Puente, Long Beach, Maywood, San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Ana, Santa Monica, South Gate, San Bernardino, Big Bear Lake and Riverside.
