Shop at local farmers markets or join a CSA (community supported agriculture).
Every decision to shop local means tastier food, fewer emissions associated with shipping and holding the produce in cold storage and more connection with where your food comes from. It’s good for you and it’s good for our community.

Shopping at local farmers’ markets is a great way to take climate action and support California’s local farmers. I hope that every chance you get, you support local, small-scale family farms at a farmers’ market. A Certified Farmers’ Market means that the vendors grew the food they’re selling. And remember, it’s California grown! What grows together, goes together!”

Certified Farmer’s Markets provide a great opportunity to take climate action in buying from local farmers and ranchers, reducing the costs and emissions of transportation. Markets also help small farmers stay in business through selling their products without the added expenses of commercial preparation. There are approximately 700 Certified Farmers’ Markets and 2,700 certified producers in California. Of these markets, about 60% operate year-round and the balance is seasonal.
Support+Feed supports California farmers and Californians experiencing food insecurity by purchasing fruits and vegetables, distributing rescued produce, organizing free farmers markets and purchasing meals from locally-sourcing restaurants. Through on-site and digital programs, we also provide resources about the health climate, and food justice benefits of plant-based agriculture. Did you know that eating less meat and dairy is the best way to reduce your impact on the environment? You can help California farmers, the planet and your health by swapping in one plant-based meal a day for 30 days.”
