What neighbors and partners are saying:

Paradise Recreation and Parks District is strengthening fire resilience and community connections in neighborhoods impacted by the 2018 Camp Fire. Events like Good Fire Weekend bring together restoration organizations, tribal groups and other land stewards, to address wildfire trauma, promote ecological health through prescribed burning, and highlight Indigenous fire practices for biodiversity and resilience. The District also supports Habitat for Humanity of Butte County and C.H.I.P.’s rebuilding efforts, ─ convening volunteers together to build affordable housing as well as restore fire resilient landscapes through removing invasive species and planting natives.

“I was burned out in the Camp Fire and almost again in the Park Fire. I’ve definitely got some wildfire trauma, but today felt like an important step in helping me get over some of that and to get comfortable around fire again.”Camp Fire Survivor and Neighbor

“This is a big family and we feel happy to participate in any activities.” — Neighbor

City of Riverside along with Riverside Community Health Foundation and Love Riverside launched a resident-led initiative in the historically underrepresented Arlanza neighborhood to create Blue Zones community action plans focused on connecting neighbors, increasing volunteerism and promoting public health and sustainability. The effort began with the Train-the-Trainer component to equip residents with the skills to lead Resident Leadership Academies. This has created a positive ripple effect, as residents actively engage in public discussions, raising key questions about cultural diversity, socioeconomic barriers and adverse climate change. Through this initiative, residents feel more empowered expressing their voices and driving positive change — creating a model for a sustainable and cohesive neighborhood fabric.

“Before, I was embarrassed to speak in public, but the leadership classes have given me confidence and taught me that I have a voice, that I can speak my mind and that my leaders will listen to me.”

“Antes, me daba vergüenza de hablar en público, pero las clases de liderazgo me han dado confianza y me han enseñado que tengo voz, que puedo opinar y que mis lideres me van a escuchar.” Isaura Tello, Arlanza resident

“El mayor impacto que he visto en las academias de liderazgo es mirar como este grupo de residentes han sido empoderadas a tomar acción y han formado un grupo unido.”Juana Jimenez Monares, RLA Facilitator

“The biggest impact I’ve seen from the leadership academies is seeing how this group of residents has been empowered to take action and has formed a tight-knit group.”

Living longer and happier lives should be a goal for all residents. This is an opportunity for a new generation of Arlanza residents to enjoy a healthier community.” — Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson
