Kwincy Lambert, Youth Jobs Corps Alum ’24

Join us in celebrating Kwincy Lambert, a Youth Jobs Corps alum who served with the City of San Diego’s Employ and Empower program. Kwincy is finishing his undergraduate degree at San Diego State University and is looking for a career that will allow him to reinvest in his community. A round of applause for Kwincy, his achievements, and his dedication to serving Californians!
What are you up to now after service?
I’m finishing up my time at San Diego State University, majoring in marketing, specializing in professional sales and sales management, hoping to graduate in Fall 2025 if not sooner. About a year ago, I also picked up a serious passion for photography. After I graduate, I want to bring together all my passions and plan to start my own licensed business.
What are your long-term career goals?
I want to go into marketing after I graduate – tech sales and project management would be the goal. Ideally, I can find a job that allows me to be a digital nomad because I really enjoy travel. I’m a marketing major so I like working with people and being part of a team, but I like the flexibility to work from anywhere and still make time for family.
I want autonomy and a good income so I can invest in my community by cultivating business; I want to help Black and minority-owned businesses. I’ve learned that cities have so many platforms to support entrepreneurs – I want to help businesses partner with cities, get contracts, get into community events.

How did Youth Jobs Corps support your career decisions?
Youth Jobs Corps provided confirmation that I am taking the right steps to make my future lifestyle come into fruition.
The internship with the City of San Diego was hybrid, and it gave me a taste of what the future could be like. We worked as a team within our own cohort; I was team leader and got to act as project manager. Together we would create ideas and solutions related to challenges the city is facing and present it to different departmental representatives and other cohorts and program staff. I learned a lot about different departments within the city during my time.
I was able to add tangible experience to my resume that is directly in line with the type of duties I will have to carry out for the career roles I will be going for. Future employers will be able to see that I am a diligent worker and not foreign to that line of work.

What motivated you to apply for Youth Jobs Corps?
Growing up in Sacramento, I was a student athlete, but my mom was always passionate about me seeking education and not relying on sports alone — she was always trying to get me involved. During high school I participated in Summer at City Hall – a six-week program that exposed me to the different responsibilities the city has, while getting resume experience and a stipend. When a recruiter reached out to me about Youth Jobs Corps, based on my prior experience in Sacramento, I knew it would be a great opportunity. Not only to enhance my resume, but to learn a new city and challenge my marketing and networking skills to see if they would transfer over to a new city.
What advice would you give a current Youth Service Corps member?
Current members — really capitalize on the networking opportunity before you. Present your skills and talents because you don’t know where it will take you.
